In this activity, students will:
- READ a brief passage.
- ANALYZE clear and crisp pictures of rocks or a diagram.
- Make a CLAIM based on EVIDENCE for a question related to either rock types or the rock cycle.
There are 16 total claims to make!
Two Ways to Assign!
- As Stations: Great for getting kids moving around the room! Each of the 16 station cards has a brief passage and rock pictures or a diagram. Students complete a Claims, Evidence, and Reasoning grid on a worksheet for a simple question at each of the 16 stations.
- Digitally: A Google Slides version of this activity is included.
Topics include:
- Sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks
- Examples of each type (including great pictures)
- How different rock types form
- Characteristics of each rock type
- The cyclical nature of the rock cycle
