Contour Maps Activity Bundle

This contour maps activity bundle helps you SAVE MONEY and both teach and assess student understanding of topographic maps. This contour maps bundle gives students TONS of practice reading elevation on maps.

1. Notes: Teach contour maps with a presentation (provided in both PPT and Google Slides). Students fill in the blanks on a Cloze worksheet as they view the presentation.
2. Rigorous Worksheet: Reflect the RIGOR of NGSS by having students practice answering both straightforward and higher-level thinking questions about topo maps. This document contains 9 different maps to analyze. There are 26 multiple-choice questions, ALL of which require map analysis, and 2 questions that require students to generate their own simple profile of an elevation.
3. Real-World Application: Brief and simple but so effective! Students are given a topographic map of Mt. St. Helens BEFORE and AFTER it erupted. Students analyze the maps for contour intervals, elevation, and how the volcano changed the topography of the mountain.
4. Quiz: This is a brief 5-question quiz that assesses students’ basic ability to read contour maps. Each question provides a map for analysis and then gives multiple-choice answers to choose from.
