Weathering, Erosion, and Deposition CER Activity

Looking for something a little more RIGOROUS WEATHERING, EROSION, AND DEPOSITION CER ACTIVITY? Spark critical thinking with DATA ANALYSIS and CER stations!

This Weathering, Erosion, and Deposition Activity gets students analyzing REAL DATA while applying their understanding of key Earth science processes such as mechanical and chemical weathering, erosion, deposition, and landform formation.

⭐ Get this at a HUGE DISCOUNT in my Weathering & Erosion COMPLETE UNIT! ⭐

Students rotate through 18 data analysis stations, reading short scientific explanations and interpreting data tables, graphs, and images to construct Claim-Evidence-Reasoning (CER) responses.

Includes both paper-based and digital Google Slides options to assign.

HOW IT WORKS: Students visit 18 NO PREP stations.

At each, students will:

  • READ a brief passage on each station card. The station card describes a real-world or scientific concept related to weathering, erosion, or deposition. Each station card also includes a DATA TABLE, GRAPH, or IMAGE related to the information.
  • Answer the given question to make a CLAIM based on EVIDENCE. Students use the information in the brief text and the data to support their answer. Students are not guessing. Each question is designed to guide them toward a clear, evidence-based response in CER format.

18 NO PREP Stations Cover the Following Topics:

  • freeze-thaw weathering
  • vegetation and erosion
  • wind erosion river deltas
  • chemical weathering and temperature
  • human land use and erosion
  • seasonal beach changes
  • cave formation and deposition
  • soil horizons
  • sediment size and transport
  • acid rain and limestone
  • biological weathering
  • mechanical weathering
  • chemical weathering (visual evidence)
  • glacial vs river valleys
  • sediment roundness and distance
  • fertile landforms
  • glacial deposition
