Middle school students often have a misconception that summer has something to do with the Earth being closer to the Sun. This worksheet activity helps BUST THAT MYTH!

  • GRAPH the distance between the sun and Earth for 12 months of the year.

  • CONCLUDE that in the Northern Hemisphere we are NOT closer to the sun in summer!

This myth-busting activity would only be effective in the Northern Hemisphere, where kids associate winter with December, January, and February!
