Includes THREE St. Patrick’s Day science activities: an engaging article, a scientific method review, and a periodic table decoder activity (an all-time student favorite). Fun as stations!

1. Periodic Table Decoder Activity: Use the Periodic Table (included) as a “decoder” for St. Patrick’s Day words! Use element atomic numbers and symbols to decode 26 words associated with Saint Patrick’s Day, such as clover, bagpipe, Ireland, etc. No prior knowledge of the periodic table is required!

2. Hypothesis and Variables Review: Students review “If…Then” hypotheses, identify independent and dependent variables and practice experimental design. Along the way, students learn true trivia about St. Patrick’s Day legends (non-religious).

3. Science Fun Facts: Students read an engaging article with tidbits of real science facts that relate to St. Patrick’s Day themes, such as gold, rainbows, potatoes, clovers, and more. After reading the article, students answer questions, define vocabulary from the text, and answer questions.
