This CHEMICAL CHANGES READING reinforces students’ understanding of reactants and products of chemical reactions while introducing them to chemical reactions that occur in everyday life.

In this activity, students will:

  • READ the text Chemical Reactions in Our Everyday Lives. The text covers 10 reactions such as rusting, combustion, ripening, heat packs, and digestion. The text gives a little background information about each and introduces students to related vocabulary.
  • ANSWER QUESTIONS on the provided worksheet. All answers come from the text, so no prior knowledge is required.
