In this Characteristic Properties Worksheet, students are given several water samples from water sources around the world (Dead Sea, Caspian sea, Cape Cod, etc.).
They are provided mass and volume data so that they can calculate the density of each sample. They are also provided the melting point of each sample.
From this information, they can decide which samples are freshwater (pure substance) and which samples are saltwater (mixture). They must answer several related questions related to characteristic properties of pure substances and how sample size does not affect characteristic properties.
