INDIVIDUAL DESCRIPTIONS:
Asexual Reproduction “That’s SO Weird” Article & Questions: (Includes Google option) In this activity, students will:
- READ a 2-page reading about some of the wackier types of asexual reproduction, including parthenogenesis and organisms that switch between sexual and asexual reproduction.
- ANSWER 13 follow-up reading comprehension questions about the article and asexual reproduction.
Sexual & Asexual Reproduction Life Cycle of Coral Activity: In this activity, students will:
- READ a brief article about the life cycle of coral, which includes both sexual and asexual phases.
- CUT OUT pictures of the stages of the life cycle and, based on the info in the article, glue the pictures on a flow chart.
- ANSWER 12 text-dependent follow-up questions highlighting sexual versus asexual processes.
Sexual Reproduction Activity – Build a Baby from Egg & Sperm: USE ONE OF TWO INCLUDED OPTIONS to assign – humans or koalas! In this activity, students will:
- Read background information about sexual reproduction, including the terms gametes, zygote, fertilization, sperm, egg, and homologous chromosomes.
- Obtain an egg and a sperm graphic. (We do this activity in pairs, so one student gets the male gamete and the other gets a female gamete.)
- Cut out the chromosomes and match the homologous pairs using a provided key.
- Paste the homologous chromosome pairs onto their karyotype page and identify whether it is male or female.
- Answer follow-up questions on a worksheet.
Sexual Reproduction in Plants – Design a Flower Activity: In this activity, students will:
- Pick a pollinator from a provided list.
- Use information about their pollinator to design a pollination strategy.
- Design a flower based on their pollination strategy
- Write about their plant’s reproduction.
Reproduction in Plants Claims and Evidence Activity: (Includes Google option) In this activity, students will:
- Read an introductory text that covers asexual and sexual reproduction and types of plant reproduction.
- Read short text passages about 8 cool examples of reproduction in plants.
- Answer questions and complete claims and evidence grids based on the text.
Asexual Reproduction Reading w/Analysis: (Includes Google option) In this activity, students will:
- READ an article about types of asexual reproduction including several specific examples.
- COMPLETE a graphic organizer about examples of asexual reproduction.
- ANSWER analysis questions.
