Assess student understanding of organelle structures and functions in animal and plant cells. This is more than a “definition-style” parts of a cell quiz – get middle school kids thinking about organelles beyond memorized definitions! 2 versions, & keys included!
Related NGSS Standards: MS-LS1-1 and MS-LS1-2
This 20-question quiz has two parts:
- Part One: Identify organelles in cell diagrams and identify their functions.
- Part Two: Multiple-choice questions that mimic how standardized tests ask about this topic, each designed to get kids thinking beyond memorized definitions.
This quiz focuses on:
- The organelles stressed by NGSS (cell membrane, cell wall, nucleus, chloroplast, mitochondria, chromosomes, vacuole)
- Major differences between plant and animal cells
Two versions of the quiz are provided. They have identical questions, but the answer choices are in a different order. So, the quizzes appear to be identical but will have different answer keys. Wandering eyes will see a quiz that looks like their own, but has different correct answers.
