Cell Energy Unit: Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration Activities

$15.99

This middle school cell energy unit includes every resource needed to teach photosynthesis, cellular respiration, and the flow of energy between organisms.

Grades 7 and Up

SAVE BIG! Plus, all of the work of this cell energy unit has been done for you – from start to finish!

This bundle is a COMPLETE AND COMPREHENSIVE UNIT, including:

✅ 3 Reading Passages with Worksheets

✅ Cell Energy Stations Activity

✅ Photosynthesis Laboratory

✅ Hands-On Cellular Respiration Activity

✅ Cell Energy Review Sorting Activity (free bonus!)

✅ Assessment (two versions)

The Unit Progress as Follows:

  • INTRODUCE the topic by having students read separate passages about photosynthesis, cellular respiration, and the relationship between these processes. Students complete a worksheet for each reading.
  • ENGAGE students with a no prep stations activity. Each of the 12 stations reviews, reinforces, or gives extra interesting information about one topic related to cell energy. Students answer questions on a worksheet as they move through the stations, including CER, flow charts, diagrams, reading comprehension questions, etc.
  • GET HANDS-ON! This unit includes two labs, one for photosynthesis and one for cellular respiration. During the photosynthesis lab, students will investigate how light, carbon dioxide, and temperature affect the rate of photosynthesis. During the cellular respiration lab, students blow up a balloon using respiration – kids LOVE this one!
  • ASSESS learning with a final text. Two versions are included for easy differentiation.

Supplies Required for this Unit:

  • For the Photosynthesis Lab: 10mL syringe (your local pharmacy may donate), spinach, straws, clear cups/beakers, baking soda, lamp or clamp light, dish soap, thermometer
  • For the Hands-On Respiration Activity: balloon, yeast, sugar, funnel, measuring spoons
  • All Other Activities: Paper copies only

Covers the Following NGSS Standards:

  • MS-LS1-6: Construct a scientific explanation based on evidence for the role of photosynthesis in the cycling of matter and flow of energy into and out of organisms.

Teacher Notes:

  • Answer keys are always included.
  • Please note: the resources in this cell energy unit are not editable.
  • We have lots more to offer in the life science section of our store!
  • Please consider following Flying Colors Science on TPT.
