This evolution evidence activity reviews the different types of evidence for evolution using the Claims-Evidence-Reasoning format! Students read a short text and analyze a diagram to make a CLAIM from EVIDENCE.

In this activity, students will:
- READ a short passage that briefly explains one of the types of evidence for evolution.
- ANALYZE a clear diagram, such as embryos, DNA sequence, and homologous structures.
- MAKE A CLAIM from evidence in the diagram. Each section has a question to answer. Students use evidence in the text and diagram to answer the question in the form of a claim.
Evidence and Terms Covered:
- common ancestor
- fossils
- law of superposition
- homologous structures
- vestigial structures
- embryo
- DNA
Diagrams Include:
- Rock Strata (law of superposition)
- Horse Ancestor Fossils (fossils)
- DNA Sequence of Various Organisms (molecular evidence)
- Forelimb Structures (homologous structures)
- Whale Skeleton (vestigial structures)
- Embryonic Development
Teacher Notes:
- NGSS Standards: MS-LS4-2, MS-LS4-3, HS-LS4-1
- INCLUDES AN ANSWER KEY.
