In this activity, students will:

  • Read a high-interest article about how chromatography, a process used to separate mixtures, is used to solve major crimes for the FBI. Students will be introduced to how two types of chromatography can be used to solve bank robberies and crimes with explosives.
  • Complete an analysis of the text, which includes 12 text-dependent questions and a flow chart.

When this activity is complete, students will understand that chromatography is a process that only works on mixtures because they can be physically separated.
