  • Food Webs Quiz
  • Populations Quiz
  • Symbiosis Quiz
  • Ecological Succession Quiz

ASSESSMENT DESCRIPTIONS:

NGSS Ecology Test: This middle school-level test includes 33 multiple-choice questions, many of which include simple pictures, diagrams, data, and graphs to interpret. All questions, graphs, data, etc. are at the appropriate level for a heterogeneous class of middle school students. The test is 6 pages long (3 front/back) with an additional 1-sided answer sheet. This is a middle school-level test that covers the following topics:

  • Ecosystems (biotic and abiotic factors, etc.)
  • Interactions between organisms (competition, symbiosis, etc.)
  • Energy in ecosystems (producer, consumer, etc.)
  • Food chains (food chains, energy pyramid, etc.)
  • Populations (limiting factors, carrying capacity, etc.)
  • Changes in populations (changes in resources)
  • Succession (primary and secondary)
  • Biodiversity
  • Human impact on ecosystems

Food Webs Quiz: This is a 10-question multiple-choice quiz that covers energy roles (producer, consumer, etc.), food chains, and energy pyramids. There are two versions of the quiz.

Populations Quiz: This 15-question multiple-choice quiz covers limiting factors, carrying capacity, and changes to populations. NGSS standard MS-LS2-1. There are two versions of the quiz.

Symbiosis Quiz: This is a 10-question multiple-choice ecology quiz that covers mutualism, commensalism, parasitism, and predator/prey relationships. Students are given examples of two real organisms and how they interact and must decide which relationship type this represents. NGSS MS-LS2-2. There are two versions of the quiz.

Ecological Succession Quiz: This is a 10-question multiple-choice quiz covering primary and secondary succession. NGSS MS-LS2-4. There are two versions of the quiz.

Related Standards:

  • NGSS MS-LS2-1: Analyze and interpret data to provide evidence for the effects of resource availability on organisms and populations of organisms in an ecosystem.
  • NGSS MS-LS2-2: Construct an explanation that predicts patterns of interactions among organisms across multiple ecosystems.
  • NGSS MS-LS2-3: Develop a model to describe the cycling of matter and flow of energy among living and nonliving parts of an ecosystem.
  • NGSS MS-LS2-4: Construct an argument supported by empirical evidence that changes to physical or biological components of an ecosystem affect populations.
  • MS-LS2-5: Evaluate competing design solutions for maintaining biodiversity and ecosystem services.
