Droughts Stations Activity

In this engaging droughts stations activity, students explore real-world drought events to understand what causes droughts, how they impact people and the environment, and how communities respond.

Students move around the room reading high-interest case studies about famous droughts from around the world, then use only the information provided to analyze each event.

Includes both print and Google Slides options to assign!

In this activity, students will:

  • READ AN ARTICLE that introduces them to droughts. A set of text-dependent questions is included to check for understanding.
  • VISIT 10 STATIONS, each with its own READ-WORLD case study of a significant drought. Examples include events such as the Dust Bowl, the California drought, the Cape Town water crisis, and more.
  • COMPLETE A GRAPHIC ORGANIZER as they move through the stations. The categories for each drought include causes, most affected resources, impacts on humans, and more.
