Floods Activity

Looking for a rigorous, engaging, and completely student-driven floods activity? This NO PREP station activity gets students analyzing real data and learning how different strategies reduce the impacts of flooding.

In this activity, students rotate through 10 interactive stations where they read short, clear background texts and analyze data tables, maps, and real-world scenarios to understand how communities reduce flood damage.

Each station is designed so students can answer questions using only the information provided, so no prior knowledge is required!

Includes both print and Google Slides options to assign!

In this activity, students will:

  • VISIT 10 STATIONS, each with its own READ-WORLD strategy that can be used to mitigate the damage of floods. Examples include permeable pavement, levees, pumping stations, green roofing, restoring wetlands, etc.
  • ANSWER QUESTIONS on a provided student worksheet as they move through the stations.
