Human Body Organ Systems CER Activity

Looking for a more RIGOROUS human body organ systems CER activity? Spark critical thinking with DATA ANALYSIS and CER stations! Perfect for NGSS MS-LS1-3!

This Human Body Organ Systems Data Analysis Activity gets students analyzing REAL-WORLD EXAMPLES and DATA while applying their understanding of the 10 MAJOR HUMAN BODY SYSTEMS and how they work together to keep the body functioning.

A major focus of this activity is HOW BODY SYSTEMS INTERACT AND DEPEND ON ONE ANOTHER. Rather than simply memorizing organs and their functions, students investigate how different systems work together, how a problem in one system can affect others, and how multiple systems cooperate to maintain HOMEOSTASIS and keep the body’s internal conditions stable.

Please note: If you like my other CER & Data Analysis Activities, you’ll like this one, too – but know that it’s a little more challenging than my usual!

Includes both paper-based and digital Google Slides options to assign.

HOW IT WORKS: Students visit 18 NO PREP stations. At each, students will:

  • READ a brief passage on each station card. The station card explains a real-world scientific concept related to human body systems and includes a DATA TABLE, GRAPH, or DIAGRAM for students to analyze.
  • ANSWER A CER QUESTION to make a CLAIM based on EVIDENCE. Students use information from the text and data to support their answer and explain their REASONING. Students are not guessing. Each question guides them toward a clear, evidence-based response in CER format.

The 18 NO PREP Stations Cover:

  • The functions of the major human body systems, with a strong emphasis on how systems work together.
  • Real-world examples involving the transport of oxygen and nutrients, muscle movement, exercise, digestion, circulation, nervous system responses, hormones, immunity, and kidney function.
  • How body systems respond to changing conditions, how problems in one system can affect others, and how multiple systems work together to maintain homeostasis.

Teacher Notes:

  • My HUMAN BODY SYSTEMS UNIT has EVERYTHING you need for this topic.
  • Works well individually, with partners, or in small groups. Stations can be completed in any order.
  • Prior knowledge of human body systems is recommended. This is best as a review/reinforcement/going further activity.
  • Includes a complete answer key.
  • Please note that this human body organ systems CER activity is NOT editable.
  • GO PAPERLESS! Use the included digital Google Slides option to assign!
  • You can also shop my TPT store!

  • NGSS Science and Engineering Practice, Engaging in Argument from Evidence: Students use scientific data as evidence to support claims and explain their reasoning.
  • NGSS Science and Engineering Practice, Analyzing and Interpreting Data: Students analyze graphs, tables, and other data displays to identify patterns and relationships.
