First Week of Science Activity

The perfect first week of science activity! Get your new students talking to each other with these SCIENCE-THEMED ice breaker stations! Pairs or groups of students make their way through 12 NO PREP science-themed stations, each with a “get-to-know-you” question that’s based on some aspect of science.

Included in this Resource:

• 12 Stations Cards: Each station has a different science theme and its own related “get to know each other” question at the bottom. (Make one copy of each station and put them around the room.)
• Worksheet (Optional): Each student will get their own worksheet to complete as they make their way through the stations. The worksheet asks very basic science questions from the station card. Students will also record their partner’s answer to the ice-breaker question.

Examples of Science-Themed Stations Include:

• Furry Friends – Students learn that every living thing is given a scientific name. They will learn the 2-word scientific name for many different types of pets. Students will use this info to tell their partner the scientific name of a pet they have or want.
• What’s In Your Ears? – Students learn that music is made of sound waves. Then, students will discuss their favorite types of music with their partner.
• You’re a Rock Star! – Students learn about different types of rocks. Each rock is given a “personality type.” Then, students choose a rock to represent them and explain why the rock “personality” is a match for them.
• What’s Your Superpower? – Students read about several cool animal adaptations that give them “superpowers.” Students tell their partner what animal superpower they would choose.
