There are 3 ways to assign this review activity:
-
Picture Cards Activity: Students look at 30 different pictures and identify the energy transformations occurring. They complete a worksheet to record their answers. (Cards look best when printed in color.)
-
Matching Words/Phrases Activity: Students match title cards like “Log Burning” to transformation cards like “Chemical Energy to Thermal Energy and Radiant Energy”. There are 24 matches total (48 cards). Students glue the matches into their notebooks when complete. (No color copies required.)
-
Google Slides Version: Students view 33 different pictures and identify the energy transformations occurring.
Please note: Most of the examples in these 3 versions overlap, so it’s best to pick just one of the ways to assign it versus doing all three.

Related Standards:
- NGSS MS-PS3-2: Develop a model to describe that when the arrangement of objects interacting at a distance changes, different amounts of potential energy are stored in the system.
- NGSS MS-PS3-5: Construct, use, and present arguments to support the claim that when the kinetic energy of an object changes, energy is transferred to or from the object.
