Electricity Circuits Quiz

This is a middle school level 15-question circuits quiz that covers the basics of circuits for a unit on electricity. (While NGSS does not specifically cover circuits, many teachers cover it this at the same time they address NGSS MS-PS2-3 and MS-PS2-5.)

The quiz covers:

  • Overview of circuits
  • Vocabulary (Ohms, resistance, voltage, etc.)
  • Basic difference between series and parallel circuits
  • Metal is a good conductor to complete a circuit

This IS NOT a “definition-style” exam, as there are several questions that include simple diagrams to analyze. There are NO high school level questions such as calculating Ohms or voltage. This is an introductory, overview assessment.

Two very similar versions of the quiz are provided. They look the same, but the answer choices are in a different order. Therefore, wandering eyes will see a quiz that looks like their own, but that has different correct answers.

Teacher Notes:

Related Standards:

  • NGSS MS-PS2-3: Ask questions about data to determine the factors that affect the strength of electric and magnetic forces.
  • NGSS MS-PS2-5: Conduct an investigation and evaluate the experimental design to provide evidence that fields exist between objects exerting forces on each other even though the objects are not in contact.
